Indoor Spa and Hot Tub Maintenance

Doing regular maintenance checks on your spa or hot tub will aid in the prevention of accumulating larger costs for repairs and cleanings later on during the life of your hot tub.   Here are a few key maintenance tips for you to consider:

-         Think about using an ozonator

Keeping bacteria out of your spa or hot tub water is very important.  An ozonator can help you to do that because it is a tool that sprays ozone gas into the water of your tub, and is an extremely effective method of killing bacteria.  It will also help in keeping the spa or hot tub water clearer for a longer time than using bromide or chlorine, and it doesn’t smell like chemicals either.  The disadvantage of using an ozonator is that it needs to be functioning for a couple of hours every day, and you still will need use other chemicals in combination.

-         Remember to winterize

There are a great deal of unnecessary problems that arise with hot tubs and spas that are caused when insufficient measures are taken to prepare for the winter months.  When you purchase your spa or hot tub, be sure to speak with the retail professional or service provider about the most effective techniques of winterizing your tub or spa, particularly if you plan to turn your hot tub off during those months.

If you do know that you are going to be turning the spa or hot tub off when it is cold for a few months, be careful.  If any water is left in the actual hot tub, pipes, or other equipment when it freezes, the water left in the hot tub will turn to ice and expand, causing your hot tub unit to crack.

Placing a winter hot tub cover over the usual hot tub or spa cover will also aid in keeping your tub in overall better shape during the winter months when the spa is not in use.

-         Remember to check the filter

The easiest, but most commonly forgotten part of maintaining a spa or hot tub, is the filter.  Your filter keeps your entire spa or hot tub system clean and clear of everything that comes off of you, or the environment, from hair to bacteria.  Most of the spas and hot tubs that are manufactured today come with filter functions that are fully programmable making it easier for all of us with busy lives to keep their spa or hot tub properly maintained
